This week started in Italy and ended in Croatia and we still find it amazing that a short 4 hour drive can land you in an entirely different country.
We spent Monday and Tuesday getting lost in the cobble-stoned alleys and open piazzas of Venice, eating too much gelato and cruising down the canals on one of the famous Gondola rides (absolute must-do if in Venice, even with the 80€ price tag).
The city is a beautiful labyrinth that you are more than happy to get lost in and take way too many photos of, even though they all start looking the same after a while.
On Wednesday morning, we left the RV Park and started the short drive from Venice through Slovenia and into Croatia. About 4 hours and one sketchy border crossing later (Note: Croatia is not part of Schengen Visa Zone) we were in. Wanting to call it for the day, we quickly picked a spot to stay in Motovun which turned out to be a fabulous decision.
The camping site was basic, but had a pool and facilities and laid at the bottom of the hill. A short 20 minute walk up the hill took you into the medieval town of Motovun with amazing views over surrounding Istria.
After wandering the city walls and taking in the views, we stopped for lunch (and coffee and beer and ice-cream) at one of the many restaurants which gave us our first taste of Croatian cuisine which turned out to be incredibly delicious and cheap.
Full to the brim after our feast, we wandered back down the hill and took advantage of the pool. We stayed here for two nights in total, the first costing 27€ and the second slightly discounted at 22€.
From Motovun, we started making our way south with no real destination in mind. The weather gods were not on our side so we eventually pulled up at Camping Area Tašalera to shelter from the rain. The cost for the night was 32€ and was your typical campsite. The next morning, we had a quick sticky beak through Premantura before the rain started again and we headed further south in search of the sunshine.
Alas, we did not find sunshine. We did, however, find that Peggy urgently needed two new tires and a wheel alignment but being the weekend we couldn’t get her looked at. So, we stopped in at Camping Skver in Senj and stayed here for two nights (142 Kuna per night) waiting for the mechanic to open on Monday.
The site was small but packed and located right on the water. The rain and wind continued for most of Saturday but some blue sky showed itself on Sunday so we explored the surrounds a bit before bunkering down and getting cosy in Peg.
Until Week Fourteen. Doviđenja x
