DUBAI

It’s not like we really needed an excuse to break up the awfully long flight from Sydney to London anyway… but what we found was a city full of beautiful architecture, culture and excruciating heat.

We spent three nights at Atlantis, The Palm and it is hard to grasp how big (and expensive) this place is. We booked a deal through Luxury Escapes (soooo many incredible places at hugely discounted prices on this site) which made this dream stopover possible!

The aquarium is, in our opinion, the centrepiece of the hotel – we seemed to detour past it any time we went anywhere. It is mind blowingly beautiful and transfixing and you have to fight to get a good spot at the front (or get up super early).

Early birds get the damn aquarium to themselves.

They also have a complete water park that makes your wildest childhood dreams (or worst nightmares) come true. We all know of the waterslide through the shark tank, right?? Match this with two pools, exclusive beach access, countless restaurants and you can’t go wrong.

“Attempted” to jog the Palm in 40 degree heat with little success – Strava for evidence.

The city itself is an interesting adventure – we spent a few hours wandering through the spice and gold souks and the numerous malls (Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall are both ridiculously huge and lavish).

These ain’t pebbles for the aquarium, they’re chocolate.

Fun Fact Friday: approximately 10 tons of gold is present at any given time in the souk and men spontaneously combust upon entry.

Burj Khalifa – the tallest building & observation deck in the world (148 floors up) – is also an absolute must (but we suggest pre-booking). The views and expanse of the city are something to behold.

You have a desert – You build skyscrapers.

Overall, you can’t beat a stopover in Dubai, but if you want to stay on the cheap – look for a deal or somewhere a little more cost effective ($50 burgers just aren’t realistic, hey).

Please let us know if you have any burning questions about Dubai and we’ll try to answer them the best we can!
